Hospice Care at ABQ Petcare Hospital

Hospice care during all stages of their lives at ABQ Petcare Hospital

The doctors and staff at ABQ PetCare are dedicated to making sure our older patients are happy and comfortable. We strive to make hospice care a positive experience for owners and their pets. We utilize multimodal pain management to make sure our patients are never in pain. We understand that there can be very difficult decisions that need to be made and we are here to offer support. We perform humane euthanasia at our hospital or in your home. We strive to make this moment special and as stress free as possible.

Simply said, hospice is a modality focused on comfort for the pet and preparing the family emotionally for life's inevitable transitions. It is a philosophy that focuses on the palliation of terminally ill patients and their symptoms while attending to the emotional needs of the families. Hospice focuses on caring rather than curing. The role of hospice is to maximize the patient's quality of life regardless of their condition. Palliation focuses on relieving and preventing suffering in patients.

Both hospice and palliation offer a multidisciplinary team approach to treatment, relying on input from a variety of sources. The hospice team can include a veterinarian, veterinary technician, acupuncturist, nutritionist, healing arts specialist and pet sitter, to name a few. All will work together to formulate a care plan to relieve pain and suffering.

We would like to emphasize that your pet's hospice care plan at Into the Sunset will not encompass any life saving treatment. Into the Sunset offers pet hospice care and is neither trying to hasten nor postpone death. The goal is to alleviate pain and suffering until natural death or the decision to euthanize occurs. None of the approaches are meant to have a curative effect on the underlying disease state.

Below are some examples of disease states that may benefit from our San Diego pet hospice care:
